Oh, it's good to be back on Beecham Street! I absolutely love the "Windy City Series", and it's always fun to visit with old fictional friends from time to time. In "Penny Wise" we don't see much of Harry Bentley, but Estelle is up to her praying ways, and she's involved a new neighbor in her weekly prayer time with Grace (we met her in "Grounded").I love the regular, everyday feel of these books. Just like in her "Yada Yada Prayer Group" series, Neta has created rich characters that come alive on the pages and live in your memory long after the book is finished.
Dave and Neta are also two of the few authors who write parallel fiction...stories that take place at the same time, but with a different focus. The events of "Grounded" were told from Mr. Bentley's point of view in "Derailed". I have a feeling this dynamic writing duo is planning something similar with "Penny Wise"...and I can't wait!
I purchased a copy of "Penny Wise" in the e-book version for my Kindle Fire, but I'm sure you can find your copy on any of your favorite bookseller websites, or go to Neta and Dave's website. "Penny Wise" is another winner in a long list of well loved novels, and I'm already eager for more!

The Jaspers are a busy family. Too busy. They are active in their church but seem to be going through the motions. I found myself getting angry at how foolish they were being but I could also totally relate. Like all the other Yada Yada books I have read I couldn't put Penny Wise down.
Sure enjoyed this read. The storyline moves along at a nice pace with never a dull moment. Really like these characters and their true-to-life everyday situations and interactions. It feels like a privilege getting to know the people of Beecham Street from the inside of each household. The Jackson writing duo have a gift for this parallel style of storytelling. Thank you for the spiritual dimension as well. It's a healthy reminder of God's practical and meaning-bearing involvement in our day-to-day, working in and through us to nurture, encourage, give hope & purpose, to teach, correct and strengthen us as He makes Himself known via the ups and downs of life. As usual, I can't wait 'til the next in the series is released. I've been consuming each series as it unfolds, from the Yada, Yada Prayer Group forward.
I have most (if not all) of Neta Jackson's Yada Yada Prayer Group books. In the past, I am usually hooked within the first chapter. It might have been me, but it took me a few chapter to get connected to the main character and the story line with this book. But once I did connect, I was hooked. I love that about Neta Jackson's books. I get addicted. I cannot put it down. I took this book with me wherever I went. Yes, the story was predictable. I would have liked some closure (or more explanation) with some of the secondary characters. I loved the connection of the title "Penny Wise" with the story toward the end of the book. I have had similar things happen to me. Jesus is real.
I love the books. If you haven't read Yada Yada Prayer Group - READ IT!!!! All their books are so inspiring. They make you want to make a difference in everything you do. When I read the first book of this series - the part about the "black Rav4" - it sounded so familiar like iI should know it but didn't make the connection. Then when I did - the way Dave and Neta brought it together, I laughed out loud. Had to be Harry! Ready Harry Bentley's Second Chance and Site - if you haven't. Awesome reads too! These series and books are my favorite and I love to share them with other women. I am looking to start my own prayer group. We can always find God - if we look and if we listen. Can't wait for book 4. Looking forward to another "Souled Out Sister" book too.
Getting to know the Windy City neighborhood where this series is set is fun and makes me want to be one of them. We get to know the Jaspers as they balance work and school and church and of course, some family time. As we become acquainted with the Jaspers we are able to continue knowing what the Bentleys and Grace and some other families on their block are doing, and that's a pleasure to continue to know their activities. This book is the third in a series but can be read alone. I'm a fan of Neta and Dave Jackson who've written quite a number of series, and this is their latest.
This series is wonderful. I have laughed, cried, find my self singing along with the hymns, praise and worship songs, this has helped me in my walk with Christ. Since reading I have grown close in my relationship with God. I am praying more, sharing more, wanting to do more for my church, and wanting to let others know about HIM. This book is soooo good. I can't wait until October for the next book. I had a hard time sleeping and working because I couldn't put it down. Bless you Neta & James for all you are doing to write great spirit filled books no trash.... You are a bright star in my life.

I just finished having an online discussion about Christian fiction being "preachy" and one thing about Neta Jackson is that her books are never that. They are real and the characters reel you in from the beginning.
I enjoyed the way this series introducing the new characters while intertwining those from house of hope and the Yada Yada series. Love, love, love!
